About Lewes250

Honoring History, Inspiring the Future

Lewes 250 seeks to celebrate and share the full legacy of the American Revolution and how it has continued to shape our community here in the First Town in the First State.

Founded in 1631, Lewes is older than the nation itself. Yet, as we approach America’s 250th anniversary in 2026, our role in the nation’s story takes center stage. From our Revolutionary War history to our coastal traditions, Lewes stands as a living reminder of resilience, community, and progress.

Through Lewes 250 events, exhibits, and programs, we aim to:

  • Educate residents and visitors about Lewes’ Revolutionary heritage.

  • Celebrate our community’s contributions to the U.S. Semiquincentennial.

  • Inspire future generations to honor and preserve our shared history.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Community

Lewes 250 would not be possible without the incredible support of our community. From local nonprofits and churches to restaurants, hotels, and small businesses, so many have stepped forward to help bring this historic celebration to life.

Your generosity, creativity, and commitment remind us why Lewes is such a special place — a town where neighbors come together, traditions are honored, and history is celebrated.

As we prepare to mark America’s 250th anniversary, we are deeply grateful for every organization, group, and individual who has contributed their time, resources, and passion to this once-in-a-generation milestone. Together, we are not just commemorating the past — we’re shaping a celebration that future generations will remember.
