Experience one of the signature moments of Lewes' Independence Day weekend as a horseback rider carrying a copy of the Declaration of Independence arrives at the Historic Lewes Campus after traveling through downtown Lewes from Lewes Elementary School.
Following the arrival, 25 community members will gather to read the Declaration of Independence aloud, bringing to life the words that shaped the birth of a nation nearly 250 years ago.
This special presentation recreates how news of American independence would have been shared in communities across the colonies and offers a unique opportunity to connect with our nation's founding history.
