Old-Fashioned Children's Games

A beloved Lewes Independence Day tradition returns for another year of family fun. Children of all ages are invited to take part in classic games that have entertained generations, including sack races, relay races, and other old-fashioned competitions. This community favorite brings families together to celebrate Independence Day the way it has been enjoyed for decades.

St. Peter's Art Festival

Spend the day browsing artwork from talented regional artists at one of Lewes' favorite Fourth of July traditions. The St. Peter's Art Festival features a variety of fine art, handcrafted items, and unique creations in a beautiful outdoor setting in the heart of downtown Lewes.

A free shuttle service will be available from Cape Henlopen High School for convenient access to the festival.

Historic Lewes Campus Celebration

Experience Independence Day through the sights, sounds, and stories of the Revolutionary era. Throughout the day, visitors can explore historic buildings, meet colonial interpreters, enjoy live music, watch demonstrations, and participate in hands-on activities for all ages.

Special performances include the Punch & Judy Puppet Show at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM, along with musket demonstrations presented by the Soldiers of the Delaware Battalion at 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3:30 PM.

Guests can also enjoy colonial musicians, children's games, crafts, blacksmith demonstrations, tavern experiences, historic tours, living history presentations, and more throughout the campus.

Ringing of the Freedom Bells

Join communities across the nation for a special moment of remembrance and celebration. At noon, bells will ring in honor of American independence, continuing a tradition observed across the country.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a hand bell and participate in this symbolic tribute to freedom.

Lewes Independence Day Boat Parade

One of the area's most anticipated Independence Day traditions returns as dozens of creatively decorated boats make their way through the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. Featuring patriotic displays, festive decorations, and plenty of community spirit, the parade offers a unique way to celebrate America's birthday on the water.

The parade is sponsored by the Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club, The Overfalls Foundation, and Freedom Boat Club.

Boat Parade Awards Ceremony

Following the boat parade, join participants and spectators at Lightship Overfalls as awards are presented to the most creative and festive entries. Celebrate the creativity, craftsmanship, and community spirit that make the parade a beloved Fourth of July tradition.

The Legendary Doo-Dah Parade

No Independence Day in Lewes would be complete without the legendary Doo-Dah Parade. Known for its creativity, humor, costumes, and community participation, this uniquely Lewes tradition invites everyone to join the fun.

There is no registration required. Participants can line up at the corner of Manila Avenue and Savannah Road and are encouraged to decorate bicycles, wagons, lawn mowers, golf carts, and more in patriotic red, white, and blue. Whether you're marching or watching, the Doo-Dah Parade is always one of the highlights of the day.

Fireworks Over Lewes Beach

Cap off an unforgettable Independence Day celebration with one of Delaware's most anticipated fireworks displays. As darkness falls, colorful fireworks will light up the sky above Lewes Beach, creating a spectacular finale to a day filled with history, tradition, and community celebration.

Arrive early to find a viewing spot and enjoy the festive atmosphere along the waterfront before the show begins.
