Overfalls Youth Program – Why Knot

  • Lightship Overfalls 219 Pilottown Road Lewes, DE, 19958 United States (map)

Knots are used for sailing, boating, fishing, surgery, rock climbing, camping, packing, shipping, decorating, and many more important activities. Knots may be made from a variety of different materials including rope, cord, twine, yarn, and thread. The Overfalls Why Knot youth program provides an understanding of the importance of knot tying to children 5 years of age and older. Participants will each receive a three foot piece of ‘pet rope’ sailboat line and taught how to tie a variety of basic knots and when to use each type on knot. They will then be taken onto the historic Lightship Overfalls to learn how and where these knots are used on a ship.
