Join the Lewes African American Heritage Commission for a meaningful and historic community gathering as Lewes unveils a new interpretive sign honoring the legacy and story of Johnnie Walker Beach.

This special commemorative ceremony will celebrate the history, cultural significance, and enduring impact of one of Lewes’ important African American heritage sites. Community members, local leaders, and state officials will come together for an unforgettable morning dedicated to preserving and sharing this story for future generations.

Guests will hear remarks from various local, state, and federal officials while learning more about the historical importance of Johnnie Walker Beach and its place within the broader story of Lewes and Delaware history.

Following the ceremony, attendees are encouraged to stay and enjoy the beach. Bring your beach chairs, towels, sunscreen, and swimsuits to continue the day by the water.
