Ring in America’s 250th at Lewes Junction
The Lewes Junction Railroad & Bridge Association invites the community to kick off America’s 250th birthday in a truly historic way.
At 10:00 AM, neighbors, churches, families, and visitors are invited to literally ring in the nation’s Semiquincentennial using the original bell from the 1913 Pennsylvania Railroad steam engine No. 60, placed on the tracks at Lewes Junction for this special celebration.
Adults may ring the historic bell for $5, with proceeds supporting the ongoing cosmetic restoration of the steam locomotive. Children are invited to ring the bell for free.
Festivities continue through the afternoon and include:
Free hot beverages and cookies
Tours of the historic red caboose, decorated for the holidays
A family-friendly atmosphere celebrating Lewes, its railroad heritage, and the beginning of America’s 250th year
The Lewes Junction Railroad & Bridge Association is dedicated to preserving, displaying, and interpreting the railroad’s important role in the history of Lewes and Eastern Sussex County.
